of
water and thus prevent the ice from
adhering firmly to the pavement
which could not be ploughed without
damaging the surface of the road.
Surface reaming of roads makes it
possible for the salt to penetrate
in the snow and thaw the ice. Under
it, brine is formed and it prevents
water from freezing again and adhering
to the pavement.
Deicing
salt is more effective when applied
within a temperature range of 0ºF
to 20ºF (-18ºC to 6.7ºC).
